Meet Marie

Organisation, leadership, and personal development coach
I grew up in the 1980's surrounded by the industry of Merseyside, North West England. My father was a Chemical Engineer and 'Plant Manager' responsible for keeping people safe and product in the pipe. When his manufacturing unit was decommissioned he brought home a small part of the control panel. "Think about the courage it takes for someone to press that Shut Down button" he told me, explaining the consequences of bringing production to a standstill. How sure you need to be that your team, your leader and your entire organisation has your back in the case you are the one to spot unsafe conditions. Yet this decision to pause work, to regroup is so essential to the safety of ourselves and others. It applies equally to whether in the moment of safety critical operations, an investment decision or a candid conversation with your team or family member. And so a fascination with all aspects of Human Performance began.

Like my father, I went on to train as a Chemical Engineer which gave me an excellent grounding in systems thinking. However, on graduating I became a consultant. I was fascinated about the cultural driving forces, the context, that causes people to behave as they do. It takes some detective work to reveal the otherwise hidden systemic patterns and solve strategic challenges. The common underpinnings are whether conditions are optimal for people to speak up and intervene with each other, and themselves. To choose to unlock their own patterns and create new, more successful practices.
I have been involved in countless journeys from complex global transformation programmes, expert witness evidence for major accident investigations, to coaching individuals on their own personal transformation journey. At the heart of all transformation is the courage to evolve. We are all subject to the forces and patterns that are ever changing between the systems that we are part of AND can influence. I use compassionate, appreciative inquiry and the power of reflection to reveal the potential for relationships to transform.

Thirty years later, that symbol of the necessity for psychological safety, the plant shutdown button, still sits on my desk and inspires me each day.

My Vision
To enable the candid, strategic, purpose-driven conversations that are needed for us to be in deeper connection with one another and so necessary to solving the world's most challenging issues.
